Moving away from wordpress.com to a self-hosted site

Heya there all my beloved followers! I’ve been away from the blogosphere for awhile because I was in the process of transferring my domain to a self-hosted site. It means I will be able to customise and experiment more of my blog which is great right? However the sad part is all who followed me won’t be able to receive any of my future posts which sucks! I know. 😦

So  for all of my followers or to those who would like to follow me. Please subscribe again to my blog by visiting this link (look for the subscriber field to enter your email)

Al Reef Lebanese Bakery

baklava sweet
Baklava is a rich, sweet pastry made of layers of filo pastry filled with chopped nuts and sweetened with syrup or honey. – Wiki

I’ve realized that my appetite for bread have grown increasingly the longer I stayed in Dubai which is good for me of course. I wanted to gain weight – so bread is a friend.

Cheese manakish of Al Reef Lebanese Bakery, is for me the best cheese bread ever! It is a white Arabic bread that is serve fresh and warm with cheese filling (mozzarella) made from wood-fired oven.

It’s so good when it is still warm you can see the cheese stretches when you bite. For only 6 dirhams my dinner is solved!

According to an Emirati friend who referred this bakery. Al Reef is the oldest and famous for it’s delicious Arabic bread and sweets.

The bakery is located in the same street of Karama Post Office. The shop beside it serves nice shawarmas too. What I like about the shop is the massive selection of Arabic sweets displayed on each side of the shop.

Rolling Stones at Yas Island | Abu Dhabi

rolling-stones-in-dubai-uae

The only part of Abu Dhabi that I’ve been to is in Yas Island. The first time is when we went to Ferrari World with my cousins where I nearly died of heart attack after boarding the fastest roller coaster in the world!

Yas Island is one of the must-see destinations in Abu Dhabi. It is a massive place ideal for family that seeks leisure time. You will find amusement parks just like Ferrari world, Du Arena where big concert takes place, Yas Links where golfers can be found, Yas Marina circuit where F1 and Grand Prix are hosted and the recently opened massive waterpark the Yas Waterworld and etc.

Just a week ago we were together with the thirty thousand crowd who witnessed the legendary Rock N’ Roll band. The Rolling Stones! I am not much of a big fan but I’ve known them ever since and the thought of seeing and hearing them live makes the hair of the back of my neck stand.

Imagine they started playing and got famous the same era as The Beatles around 1964 and now it’s 2014 and they’re all still kicking ass on the stage which is totally exceptional.

These are some of the songs that the crowd have loved:

  • Paint It Black
  • Shine a Light
  • Gimme Shelter
  • Satisfaction

Singapore Deli in Karama

singapore tempe
Singapore tempe is a vegetable fried tofu with delectable chilly sauce

After a long day of work we have decided to visit an old fave restaurant. In the buzzing place of Karama sits Singapore Deli that serves Asian dishes mainly, Indonesian and Malaysian.

For starters we had Fried Tempe (Tofu). This was served hot with an amazing super spicy dip.  We considered ordering Sambal Tempe but decided to choose the former. According to my partner it’s the spiciest food he had ever tried.

I have ordered Fried chicken with Kangkong and steamed rice (very similar to Filipino food). There’s a small dip on the side which I’m not familiar with but it tasted like fermented something with chili on it. It has a strong flavor although it really compliments the dish.

My partner ordered a Seafood Curry noodles. It has a light flavor just as what you have expected in a curry soup.

It’s nice to sit outside especially with the lovely weather we have now. Try it for yourself and share your experience! x

Yalla Momos in Karama

Fried Momos

After blogging so much about shops in Karama you probably are convinced that this place is a haven for foodies. So here’s a another treat for all the Dubaian’s out there.

Let me share to you this very cute Al fresco dining place of Yalla Momos. We have been a happy customer since they have opened ages ago and felt bad to do a review this late.

From the time they opened until they have renovated the place people can’t just get enough of their delicious momos!

Momo is a famous street food in Nepal and is widespread throughout India.  It’s similar to Chinese dumpling that has varieties of filling. You can get vegetable, cheese, chicken, beef, and mushroom momos.

I would like to thank Abby and Jai for their lovely treat. It’s their first time to try momos and they really enjoyed it! Abby actually have craving for it now.

There should always be Way-way noodles (careful it’s very spicy) on our order which is a perfect combination with Momos.

Click here to see their MENU.

Yalla Momos is located opposite Bikarnevala (4B Street) behind Park Regis Hotel.

Where to stay in Boracay |Dave’s Straw Hat

For a few minutes of walk from where we were dropped off, we then found Dave’s Straw Hat.

Beachfront Boracay Island Philippines

It was a quiet afternoon in Boracay when we arrived. The lady receptionist greeted us  without me first introducing myself (impressive). She already knew and assisted us to our room. She came back after 5 minutes handing us our “welcome drinks”. It’s a frozen lemon iced tea drink. Just perfect after the long journey!

I was very pleased with how it looked so much nicer than in the pictures. I chose the place because of the reasonable price and has been voted as Travelers’ Choice  in Tripadvisor. All the reviews are good so that makes me feel confident with my choice .

Our room is a standard type for 1,950  pesos per night. It has one double bed, TV, toilet and a box locker.

The best thing is that our sheets and towels are clean all the time. You don’t need to ask them they will just take care of it for you.

For our 6-day stay at Boracay we were very confident that our stuff is secure.

Dave’s Straw Hat’s location is perfect for people who seeks quiet and relaxing place away from the noisy area known as Station 1 and 2. It’s quite a long walk (15 mins)  to the center of Boracay where you see D’ Mall – but it’s a holiday so you’re suppose to be out and about right?

Tip: Make sure to book in advance to avoid disappointment.

I’ll surely stay on this place again if ever I’ll visit Boracay.
