Where to stay in Boracay |Dave’s Straw Hat

For a few minutes of walk from where we were dropped off, we then found Dave’s Straw Hat.

Beachfront Boracay Island Philippines

It was a quiet afternoon in Boracay when we arrived. The lady receptionist greeted us  without me first introducing myself (impressive). She already knew and assisted us to our room. She came back after 5 minutes handing us our “welcome drinks”. It’s a frozen lemon iced tea drink. Just perfect after the long journey!

I was very pleased with how it looked so much nicer than in the pictures. I chose the place because of the reasonable price and has been voted as Travelers’ Choice  in Tripadvisor. All the reviews are good so that makes me feel confident with my choice .

Our room is a standard type for 1,950  pesos per night. It has one double bed, TV, toilet and a box locker.

The best thing is that our sheets and towels are clean all the time. You don’t need to ask them they will just take care of it for you.

For our 6-day stay at Boracay we were very confident that our stuff is secure.

Dave’s Straw Hat’s location is perfect for people who seeks quiet and relaxing place away from the noisy area known as Station 1 and 2. It’s quite a long walk (15 mins)  to the center of Boracay where you see D’ Mall – but it’s a holiday so you’re suppose to be out and about right?

Tip: Make sure to book in advance to avoid disappointment.

I’ll surely stay on this place again if ever I’ll visit Boracay.

My First Boracay Island Experience | Philippines

Airplane to Boracay

This is the part where the awaited holiday experience starts.

We arrived in Kalibo Airport on the 3rd of September boarded in a Cebu Pacific Airlines.

I have booked all our flights with Cebu Pacific because of its cheaper Promo Sales.

I have done it months before our holiday and have been impressed with the service. Well there are  some cases where it’s a bit delayed but it’s not that bad.

There are two airports that you can choose from in going to Boracay Island:

Caticlan Airport

  • only small aircraft can land at this airport
  • the closest airport to Boracay
  • has limited schedule of flights
  • passengers are given a limited luggage allowance of 10kgs
  • more costly airfare than Kalibo
  • From Caticlan airport you can either take a tricycle or just walk (10 minutes) to Caticlan Jetty Port.

Kalibo Airport

  • is the main airport that connects international flights
  • the runway is able to land larger aircraft
  • It is about 2 hours ride to Caticlan Jetty Port
  • 5-15 minutes ride until you step foot on the finest sand of Boracay

Once we picked up our luggages we were able to quickly purchase a transport package from Southwest Travels outside the airport terminal.  For just 1,800 each pesos we will be transported to Caticlan Jetty port through a van that also includes fee for jetty and Terminal. Best thing of choosing this package is that you’ll have a worry-free travel since they will drop you off and on directly infront of the hotel you’re staying.

Lesson learned never bring heavy baggage in going to Boracay. Both of us brought around 19 kgs each so it really is a pain in the arse.

We are so glad for the helpful porters who are very muscle-ly enough to carry our luggage from the boat to the surface. (make sure to prepare a couple of change to give “tips” to the porters)

The sky is so clear and the sun was so inviting as we step foot to the Island. I haven’t expected that Boracay will greet us perfectly. Days before the trip I was constantly checking the weather forecast worried about the predicted thunderstorms and rainshowers but boy I am lucky to brought some sunshine from Dubai!

Cebu Pacific announce Direct Flights to Dubai!

cebu pacific airbus

As a travel blogger from Cebu living abroad, I am very proud to be associated with the biggest name in travel from my hometown – Cebu Pacific Air.  I am so overwhelmed at the thought of my little blog reaching interested advertisers of such great magnitude!

I will be helping them to promote their company and in return they will help me to keep my blog running. Isn’t it amazing!?

I feel it is an honour to help my fellow compatriots (Kabayans!) to be recognised internationally. Nothing makes me feel prouder than my Cebu roots, the same place where Chinese-Filipino billionaire, John Gokongwei comes from.

With his interesting riches-to-rags-to-riches story, John Gokongwei is now the third wealthiest entrepreneur in the Philippines with a networth of $3.2 billion.

Cebu Pacific, as one of his largest businesses, has just completed the new Airbus A330-300 aircraft that will be used for daily flights between Manila and Dubai. The flights will be fully operational this coming October 7, 2013. It is the first long haul operation directly from Philippines to Dubai and  I’m pretty sure that Filipinos around Dubai are rejoicing for this wonderful news – a big step for Philippines to make a mark internationally.

I feel it is a very bold decision for the budget airline to extend their service for Filipinos working abroad. I can’t wait to be in service with Cebu Pacific soon.

“CEB is proud to be the only Filipino carrier to fly direct to Dubai. We are glad to be of service to over 700,000 Global Filipinos who are in UAE. Now, our kababayans in Dubai can enjoy fares that are up to 40% lower than current offerings and fly direct to Manila, a mere 9 hours away from their loved ones, via a CEB flight,” said Alex Reyes Cebu Pacific General Manager, Long Haul Division.

Eraserheads Reunion Concert | Dubai

Dubai Media City Amphitheatre - Eraserheads

I can’t believe it’s been a week since I have watched one of the legends in Philippine music scene. My first ever concert in Dubai is a full support for my Kabayans! Eraserheads‘ concert was a blast. A massive crowd queuing up at the concert venue last Thursday night. A much awaited music festival of the second big telecom company in UAE – the du World Music Festival was held at Dubai Media City Amphitheatre.

Eraserheads is one of the few influential and phenomenal Filipino alternative band that has been so big in the 90’s. I strongly believe that their songs are always been a part on every Filipino.

“It was one of the rare times that such a massive crowd of Filipinos gathered to watch a concert. Around 12,000 tickets may have been sold, making it one of the biggest in Dubai this year, said one of the sponsors said of the event.” – Gulf News
